Norwegian aluminium company Norsk Hydro ASA’s fully owned subsidiary Hydro Energi AS has signed a long-term power contract with Markbygden Ett AB, a Swedish wind power company, for annual baseload supply of 1.65 TWh in the period from the beginning of 2021 to the end of 2039. The operations at Markbygden Ett is currently the W3 Energy’s biggest undertaking. The wind farm outside Piteå in the northern parts of Sweden consists of 179 turbines. With a combined rated power of 650 MW, it is one of Europe’s largest land-based wind farms.

NCC has been commissioned to conduct extensive infrastructure work for the Markbygden ETT wind farm in Piteå.
It is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2019. Project partners have already invested more than €300m in equity to fund the farm, while GE and GIG have raised around €800m.
